With an output of 6.4 MW and a capacity of 21.6 MWh, Stadtwerke Hünfeld operates what is currently the largest battery storage system in Hesse. As a so-called three-hour system, the storage facility is particularly well suited to responding to short-term fluctuations in the power grid – a feature that is becoming increasingly important as the share of renewable energies rises.
The trading is carried out through Cross-Market-Optimisation, which specifically includes all relevant markets – including balancing energy (FCR and aFRR) as well as day-ahead and intraday markets. Entelios is responsible for the technical integration and...

Sunnic Lighthouse GmbH

Germany’s first PV plant prequalified for secondary control power (aFRR)

Solarpark Sunnic Lighthouse GmbH
Asset Class
Photovoltaics (Renewable Energy)
Plant Type
Ground-mounted PV system
Power Capacity
37.4 MWp

With the successful prequalification of the Schkölen ground-mounted PV plant (37.4 MWp) for the aFRR market, we have set a milestone in the energy transition together with Sunnic Lighthouse and 50Hertz.

For the first time, a PV plant in Germany is performing grid-supporting tasks in the control energy market – both by reducing output in the event of a power surplus and by feeding power into the grid in the event of a shortfall.

OBTON A/S

Large-scale battery storage in Karstädt ensures grid stability and market revenues

Obton Batteriespeicherpark in Karstädt realisiert mit Entelios
Asset Class
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
Plant Type
Stand-alone / grid-scale / front of the meter
Power Capacity
20,7 MW
Energy Capacity
35 MWh

The stand-alone battery storage facility in Karstädt strengthens Obton A/S's regional grid stability while also benefiting from market-optimised flexibility trading. The BESS has a power capacity of 20.7 MW and an energy capacity of 35 MWh and is traded by Entelios on several short-term markets such as the intraday and balancing energy markets.

Thanks to its medium-voltage grid connection (20 kV) and its geographical location in the 50Hertz control area, the storage facility is optimally integrated into the German electricity grid. The focus is on data-based cross-market optimisation, which allows the available flexibility to be used...

OBTON A/S

Large-scale storage with 40 MWh: intelligent trading, stable grids

Obton Batteriespeicherpark in Tangermünde realisiert mit Entelios

Stand-alone / grid-scale / front of the meter
Power Capacity
15,8 MW
Energy Capacity
32 MWh

With another large-scale storage facility in Tangermünde, Obton A/S is expanding its German storage portfolio with another strategically located project in the 50Hertz control area. The front-of-the-meter storage facility, with a power capacity of 15.8 MW and an energy capacity of 32 MWh, contributes to local grid stability and enables cost-effective marketing on short-term markets.
Entelios is responsible for automated cross-market optimisation, including participation in the PRL and SRL balancing energy markets and active management on the day-ahead and intraday markets. Intelligent control maximises revenues while making a useful...

SCHOENERGIE

Co-location BESS with 55 MWh supports energy transition in Föhren

Asset Class
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
Plant Type
Co-located / grid-scale / front of the meter
Power Capacity
21 MW
Energy Capacity
55 MWh

In Föhren, Rhineland-Palatinate, SCHOENERGIE is implementing an innovative combination of photovoltaic and battery storage. The 21 MW / 55 MWh battery storage system is directly coupled with a 17 MW PV plant and is connected to the grid via a 20 kV medium-voltage interface.
Since October 2025, Entelios has been trading the system across various short-term electricity markets (FCR, aFRR, Day-Ahead, Intraday), ensuring optimal revenue generation. The project also uses our Cross-Market Optimisation, which has been specifically designed for co-located systems. The battery storage unit is operated in Amprion's grid zone and delivers important...

Carbide oven
Power Capacity
50 MW

With the launch of the new SEAL system service product on 22 May 2024, industrial flexibility will be used to stabilise the grid. SEAL replaces the Switch-off Loads Ordinance (AbLaV), which expired in June 2022, and enables electrical consumers to be switched off quickly in order to stabilise the grid frequency.

Entelios AG is the first marketer in Germany to qualify for SEAL. Since July, two Alzchem carbide furnaces with a total output of 50 MW have been successfully marketed. The systems can be switched off at short notice in the event of grid fluctuations and quickly switched back on again.
