Germany’s first PV plant prequalified for secondary control power (aFRR)
With the successful prequalification of the Schkölen ground-mounted PV plant (37.4 MWp) for the aFRR market, we have set a milestone in the energy transition together with Sunnic Lighthouse and 50Hertz.
For the first time, a PV plant in Germany is performing grid-supporting tasks in the control energy market – both by reducing output in the event of a power surplus and by feeding power into the grid in the event of a shortfall.
Entelios was responsible for developing the technical PQ and implementation concept and is contributing its many years of experience in flexibility trading to the project. The successful combination of precise forecasting, smart control and close cooperation with the project partners makes the project a real beacon for the system integration of renewable energies.
The plant is connected to the 50Hertz grid at the high-voltage level and has had access to the aFRR market since 11 November 2025. Further Sunnic ground-mounted PV plants are already in preparation for prequalification.
“We are proud to be the first in Germany, together with Sunnic and 50Hertz, to have prequalified a photovoltaic plant for the ancillary services market. This project is a real milestone – and proof of what is possible when technological innovation meets partnership-based cooperation. At Entelios, we are committed to breaking new ground in flexibility trading and actively shaping the energy transition together with strong partners,” explains Fabian Becker, CEO of Entelios AG.
“The successful integration of our PV system into the aFRR market is a paradigm shift – not only for Sunnic and our industry, but also for the entire energy system. Together with Entelios, we were able to implement a forward-looking concept that shows that even volatile renewable generation plants such as photovoltaics can help to stabilise our electricity grid during fluctuations. The partnership-based and solution-oriented cooperation was a decisive factor in this success,” emphasises Arved von Harpe, Managing Director of Sunnic Lighthouse.
